The most sustainable garment is the one that lives long
Choosing well is the first step. Caring, repairing and passing things on are the next ones. Here is how to extend the life of every piece in your wardrobe — the ones from our shop and all the others.
Care: wash less, wash better
Air before washing
A garment worn for a few hours rarely needs a wash: a night on a hanger near an open window is often enough. Every wash you skip spares the fibres.
Wash cold
30 °C or less, gentle cycle, machine well filled but not crammed. Natural fibres like organic cotton hold their shape far longer at low temperatures.
Air dry
The tumble dryer is fabric’s worst enemy. Flat for knitwear, on a hanger for the rest: your clothes will keep their shape for years longer.
Feed the materials
Cork and the microfibres of vegan footwear are best cared for with a damp cloth and a little patience — no harsh products needed. The product page states the right care for each item.
Repair before replacing
A loose hem, a lost button, an open seam: ten minutes of mending gives a garment years of extra life. And for anything beyond your needle skills, the alteration shops and cobblers of Luxembourg and the Greater Region work wonders — a new sole always costs less than a new pair.
It is also one of our selection criteria: we favour pieces with solid finishing, designed to be repaired rather than thrown away.
Keep it moving when it no longer fits
Donate
Local charities and clothing banks in Luxembourg give an immediate new purpose to garments in good condition that you no longer wear.
Resell
Second-hand platforms, wardrobe sales, consignment shops: a quality piece always finds a taker — which is, in fact, the best test of its true value.
Pass it on
Among family and friends, a beautiful piece gets handed down. Well-chosen, well-cared-for clothes live several lives — which is exactly why you choose them well in the first place.
And it all starts at the moment you buy
A garment’s second life is decided during its first: a well-cut piece, in a material that lasts, gets kept, repaired and passed on. That is the principle behind our whole selection — our approach explains it in detail.
